The Story of
Miriam and Yannic met at a joint project in the Space Industry, their skill sets complement each other perfectly. When Miriam first came into contact with soilless cultivation during her Master thesis they realized the potential of this technology. Without knowing it back then, her project on novel control and sensing mechanisms in soilless cultivation systems was the birth of Myriad.
From that day on, they built and perfected their own indoor gardening systems. Both were working in stressful jobs, had no knowledge of growing plants and little space to do so in their tiny apartment in the center of Bonn. If they wanted to grow their own produce they had to get creative and advance the current state of the technology to drive efficiency and automation. Over the next months they successfully grew their own food on only a few square meters of space: Tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis, paprika, beans, radishes and herbs.
The taste, quality and variety of the produce became their motivation to bring this amazing technology to the urban population worldwide. Within only a month they drew up and handed in the patents for their work. They quit their jobs to work full time on Myriad. Since receiving the German “Exist -stipend for technologically highly innovative startups” they are joined by Christian and are making the product market ready together with the University of Bayreuth.
The Founding Team
Miriam Martín González
Product & Electronics
Miriam studied Electrical Engineering in Spain and moved to Germany to work on satellites in its largest space industry company. Before founding Myriad, she developed algorithms and simulations to track space debris in a Fraunhofer Institute. Her master thesis was the basis for the Myriad Garden. Since then she’s gained many years of experience building hydroponic and aeroponic systems.
Strategy & Data Science
As a Business Engineer Yannic loves the interaction of technical and business related systems. After working in the space industry as a Project Engineer he helped build an AI-aided surveillance vehicle for the German Government. He continued to work as a Consultant for Smart Systems and Data Driven Business Models for DAX companies like Telekom and Daimler.
Software & Design
Christian has been working on Software projects since a young age combined with a passion for Photography. While studying Biology, he combined his passions in his final project: He built a machine for automated photogrammetry on a microscopic level. Before joining Myriad he worked as a freelance developer on Virtual and Augmented Reality apps.
Everybody can grow their own vegetables
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to grow their own vegetables – no matter if they live in an urban metropolis, the desert or in space. To achieve this, we use the most innovative technologies and develop products that are efficient and user-friendly. We build Smart Indoor Gardens that fit into every home and lifestyle. With them, even beginners can enjoy a huge harvest of fresh food.
We’re at a point where technology can replace not only actions but also knowledge. This allows for what we call “Decentralized Production”. Without prior knowledge or other barriers users of our products can grow their own food. They benefit from larger variety of flavors, unrivaled freshness and a higher nutritional contents of nutrients. All while reducing negative impacts to nature and climate.
We’re incredibly happy having such strong supporters who share our values.
